Read Time:7 Minute, 2 Second

Find out how long to bake chicken breasts at 400 degrees! An effortless weeknight meal is chicken breasts baked in the oven at 400 degrees.

400 degrees The ideal temperature for preparing juicy, tender, and flavorful chicken breasts is Fahrenheit. Learn how to bake chicken for the appropriate amount of time at 350 degrees, at 400 degrees, and more!

How Long to Bake Chicken Breast at 400 F

For 20 to 30 minutes, bake chicken breasts in a 400°F oven. This baking time is for chicken breasts that are approximately an inch thick and are boneless and skinless. As a result, the time will vary depending on the thickness of the breasts, the efficiency of your oven, and whether or not the breasts were covered with foil during baking.

HOW LONG TO BAKE CHICKEN BREAST AT 400 F IN FOIL
Aluminum foil should be placed over the chicken breasts before baking for 30 minutes at 400 F. Wrap the breasts in foil after seasoning with salt, pepper, and some herbs. The foil will keep them moist and juicy while they cook as they will take on the flavors of the herbs and spices.

How Long to Bake Chicken Breast at 400 F Uncovered

Typically, it takes 25 minutes to bake a chicken breast, uncovered, at 400°F. Uncovered baking of chicken breasts is, in my opinion, a delicate process because, if done incorrectly, the chicken breasts will dry out and be unappealing.

The chicken breast should be rubbed with olive oil or melted butter before being marinated for two to three hours to allow the flavor and moisture to penetrate.
Then, add 1 cup or so of liquid, such as melted butter, lemon juice, vinegar, or a combination of your choosing, to the baking pan. After that, bake the chicken until it is fully cooked.
5 minutes before the advised baking time has passed, check the chicken breast’s internal temperature. For instance, check the temperature after 20 minutes of baking and continue to do so roughly every 2 minutes until the food is thoroughly cooked. When finished, the temperature ought to range between 160 and 170 F.

You won’t get a brown and golden color from cooking chicken breasts at a lower temperature, but 400F will.

How Long to Bake Chicken Breast at 400 F in An Air Fryer

In an air fryer set to 400 degrees Fahrenheit, cooking chicken breasts covered with foil takes about 20 minutes, and cooking them uncovered takes 16 to 20 minutes, with one flip. You must adhere to the same guidelines as when baking chicken breasts in a conventional oven when using an air fryer. For no more than three minutes, the air fryer should be preheated to 400 F. The breasts should be marinated before cooking if you plan to bake them uncovered.

Finally, spray the air fryer’s basket and breasts to avoid sticking. To ensure that the chicken breasts cook evenly, do not overcrowd the air fryer. I advise cooking your chicken breasts in batches if you have a lot of them to prepare.

HOW LONG to BAKE CHICKEN BREAST at 400 F from Frozen

At 400 degrees Fahrenheit, you can also bake frozen chicken breasts. You can count on the bake time to be increased by 50% on average whether you are baking your chicken breast in a baking dish that is covered, uncovered, or covered in aluminum foil.

This means that instead of taking between 20 and 30 minutes to bake frozen chicken in your oven at 400°F with an uncovered baking dish, it will probably take between 30 and 45 minutes. For an estimate of how long frozen chicken breasts should cook, see the chart below.

It will take about 40–50 minutes to bake chicken breasts from frozen at 400°F in the oven, and about 15–25 minutes to air fry them at the same temperature. Thawing unseasoned frozen chicken breasts first is a good idea if you have any on hand. Simply put the frozen breasts in the refrigerator to do this, and they will start to defrost in about a day. As an alternative, you could thaw the chicken in warm water, which should take less than 3 hours.

Utilizing a meat thermometer is the best way to ensure success. You can buy them for as little as $10, making them a remarkably cheap way to guarantee that your chicken is perfectly juicy.

How to Season Chicken Breasts

Because chicken breasts have a delicate flavor, you should season them and add salt. Since I frequently want a quick meal, I don’t usually brine or marinate the chicken, but you can do either. They’re tender and juicy on their own if cooked and seasoned properly.

Really anything goes but here are some of my favorite seasonings for chicken breasts:

  • Italian seasoning, salt and paprika (per recipe below)
  • Cajun seasoning
  • Taco Seasoning
  • Salt, pepper, olive oil and fresh herbs with lemon zest
  • Store-bought chicken or steak seasonings or rubs

Is It Better to Bake Chicken at 350 F Or 400 F?

Because they will cook faster and develop more color at a higher temperature, baking chicken breast at 400 F is preferable to 350 F. This does not, however, imply that you should bake chicken breasts at a temperature higher than 400 degrees Fahrenheit because doing so increases the likelihood that the chicken will dry out. Attempt to keep baking at temperatures below 400 F.

How to Know Chicken Breast is Cooked

Simply place your food thermometer into the thickest part of your chicken breast to check the internal temperature to determine whether it is fully cooked. Your chicken breast will be perfectly cooked when the thermometer registers 160 to 170 degrees Fahrenheit.

How to Know Chicken Breast is Cooked Without a Thermometer

Simply cut into the chicken breast to check the color to see if it is cooked through. Instead of pink, the chicken breast ought to be entirely white.
